I love the tech that comes out of the student and college/young adult ministries at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. These guys have brought us some great blogs like steveostudios.tv fun and solid content in their podcast churchtechtalk, usable free resources at stufficanuse.com, now a few cool products at digitalstache.
Their latest resource for ministry, Spin That Wheel, is not free but is worth it weight in SPAM (SPAM is considered gourmet food in Hawaii). We saw this game for the first time at the Simply Youth Ministry Conference last February (register for this years conference before they sell out again).
Here is a brief description from their product website… “Spin That Wheel is a rockin large group interactive game. As a stand alone application, the software allows you to add up to 15 custom prizes to the wheel, then spin it to see what you get! (Wow, I just won a bag of Pork Rinds*) It has a random winner every time. Find yourself a great host, a really bad outfit, and you are in for a great night.”
*Prizes not included.
The students in our ministry love this game and I want to share a copy with one of you for your ministry. To get a chance at snagging a FREE copy, you must take the following TWO actions:
1. Leave a comment below. Tell us how you are PLAYING GAMES using TECHNOLOGY. (ie. Spin That Wheel, PowerPoint Games, Race This, etc…share your best idea with us). Leave your twitter name in the comment.
2. Follow youthministrygeek on twitter. We will send you a direct message if you are the winner.
On Friday December 17 we will pick the post with the best “tech game” idea and send a copy of Spin That Wheel for FREE! If you don’t will you can always pick up your own copy at digitalstache.com. Soon you’ll be able to pick it up at Simply Youth Ministry also.
@jeffreykammerer We use media in every area of our ministry. More than anything the kids love race this. It’s such an awesome way to start a program. One thing we do with the kids in our church is draw out names at the start of each month for children that have memorized verses and we give them a chance to pick out a prize. We were going to pull out our tabletop prize wheel but this is much cooler.
@ScottTinman
We too use games like Race This and Powerpoint games and have incorporated Minute to Win It type games. this would be great to use along side that for the winners to spin for their prizes.
We use videos within our ministry on a regular basis. We have used them for countdowns, random videos, announcements, sermon illustrations, and for the whole message. Also, we have used several of the race this videos, power play videos, and zoom ins.
I would love to use the spin that wheel game to pull off some games and door prize events that we do from time to time.
Sounds like an awesome way to create a lot of opportunities for community and fun. I will use it for many different areas of ministry with my students.
Great tool. We would definitely use it at events to hand out prizes but I’m sure it has many other uses as well. One of the best ways we use technology right now is we use poll anywhere to give out a prize based on the old “what would you do for a klondike bar” commercial. We have students text in to the poll (created at PollEverywhere.com) what they would do for whatever prize we are giving out. Winner comes up and performs 🙂
I am almost ready to pick…did everyone follow us on twitter and leave their twitter name?
@chadmm
We are all the time doing fun bits in youth group. We have this one recurring bit that is a game show like game. The kids love it and i think the addition of the wheel for prizes gifts and gags would be great. Plus I would probably use it to decide where I am going to lunch each day
We use technology quite a bit to facilitate games within our ministry from using Race This and various PowerPoint trivia challenges to Battle of the (xbox360) Rock Bands and Wii Boxing tournaments during our guys-only units…did I mention we use blenders quite a bit? One particular tradition is a gross food challenge @ Christmas called Fear Factor Dirty Santa where the students unwrap “gifts” of nasty food items and consume them for points. A twist on this could be be to use Spin the Wheel to decide what bit of nastiness they must eat. This variation of the game could be used year round! @LivewireJustin
